Ingredients

  • 4 medium sized apples (2 ¼ cups of puree I got)
  • 3/4 cup of brown sugar
  • ¼ cup of ghee
  • ¼ teaspoon rose essence
  • 2 tablespoons of chopped nuts
  • A pinch of salt

Instructions

  • Wash and peel the skin of the apples.
  • Chop the apples and remove the core.
  • Add the chopped apple pieces into the blender and grind it to the smooth puree.
  • Heat a heavy bottom pan and add 2 tablespoons of ghee to it.
  • Once the ghee is melted add the apple puree to the pan and cook it for 10 minutes so that the moisture present in the apple puree evaporates.
  • Then add the sugar and mix it well. Once the sugar melts the halwa becomes liquidy again.
  • Cook for another 10 minutes till the halwa becomes little thick.
  • Add the few drops of rose essence, salt and add the remaining ghee and mix it well.
  • Once the halwa turns thick enough add the chopped nuts and switch the flame.
  • Serve the apple halwa hot and enjoy.

Notes

  • You can use cardamom powder instead of rose essence for flavoring.
  • The sugar measurement varies depending upon the sweetness of the apple used.
  • I have used brown sugar but you can use jaggery or any refined sugar as well.
  • If you want you can add red food color to the halwa.
  • I have added chopped almonds and pistachios. But you can roast some cashews and add it to the halwa also which tastes equally great.
